Goodbye Speedy!
It's with a sad heart that we share the news of Speedy's passing. While he was only with us 2 weeks (to the day) he sadly passed this afternoon leaving a great hole in our hearts. I know, it's sounds silly to be this saddened by a little lizard's death, but we fell for him hook line and sinker when we first met him.
Speedy, The Chinese Water Dragon
I finally broke down and got another pet. Couldn't help it, just like with Turbo the hamster, Speedy the Chinese Water Dragon stole our hearts.
Maddison was against it at first (she wanted a little turtle named Speedy instead) but she's grudgingly admitting now that she does like 'it'. I say 'it' because we don't know what sex the Dragon is and won't for about 2 years. You can't tell until they mature.
It is very cute, reminds me ALOT of the Geico Gecko (tv commercials) and has alot of personality. It loves to be held and will sleep for hours on my hand or arm if I let it. When I go to return the dragon to it's cage it runs up my arm which, while cute, gets annoying the 3rd or 4th time!
The cage is kind of a pain, Speedy has certain specific requirements that must be met for it's health. The cage need to be kept at 84-88 degrees during the day (which will get easier as summer comes closer) and 80% humidity which is pretty difficult as our apartment lacks humidity and sucks it out of the cage. Wet wash cloths on top of the cage (leaving a strip for air flow) help as does misting the cage with water every so often. Ice doesn't seem to do much.
